Recruits coming out to see Cadillac Williams and Auburn

A sellout crowd is on tap inside Jordan-Hare Stadium on Saturday night as Auburn welcomes in Texas A&M for interim coach and beloved former player Cadillac Williams’s first game in charge.

As the fans rally around Williams and support this Tigers football team down the stretch, a terrific group of recruits will be on campus soaking in the environment.

When you talk to sources around The Plains, there is a ton of excitement for the return of Miami (Fla.) Central Top247 defensive end Ruben Bain. Auburn edge/linebackers coach Roc Bellantoni has led the charge in the recruitment of Bain who is no stranger to Auburn and has the Tigers high on his list despite the uncertainty the program has right now without a head coach. There are some around Auburn that believe they could even be the team to beat as they battle Miami, Louisville and Alabama among others.

A few of the best prospects in the country have been regulars for Auburn game days this fall in the 247Sports Composite’s No. 2 defensive linemen James Smith, the nation’s No. 5 edge rusher Qua Russaw and the Top247’s No. 3 tight ends Jelani Thurman who is currently a verbal to Ohio State. It’s obvious all these guys like Auburn a lot. Who knows where the needle moves from where it already stands once the next head coach is hired and what assistants are retained.

Long-time Georgia commit in Top247 offensive tackle Bo Hughley has been linked with interest to Auburn for what seems about as long as he’s been committed to the Bulldogs which dates back to Sept. 2021. LSU is gaining traction in this recruitment as well.

Official visitors for this game include Auburn commits in receiver Daquayvious Sorey and offensive lineman Clay Wedin along with linebackers Stanquan Clark and Bryan Longwell and defensive back targets Edwin Joseph. Bellatoni is the lead on Clark who is committed to Louisville and same goes for Joseph. Auburn is probably in a great spot for Longwell coming into the weekend.

Some other key 2023s making their way in include running back commit Jeremiah Cobb who has been hearing from other schools, North Carolina defensive line commit Joshua HortonLSU defensive line commit Darron Reededge rusher Ezra Odinjoredge Joseph MupoyiTop247 linebacker and Oklahoma commit Lewis CarterMichigan State defensive back commit Colton Hood and Miami defensive back commit Antione Jackson.

While Reed could be a long shot, Auburn at one point led for Mupoyi, Hood took an official two weekends ago and his father and uncle both played for the Tigers, this will be the staff’s first time seeing Odinjor, Carter’s coach Jeris McIntyre played with Williams at Auburn. Jackson has talked about taking an official down the road as well.

Alabama five-star defensive back commit Tony Mitchell is expected back, as is Auburn safety commit Terrance Love.

The list of 2024s and 2025s is also loaded as Williams and the interim staff continue to work and keep blue-chippers interested in the Tigers program.
