Jason Pinnock among four players Giants claim off waivers

The Giants had an active day on the waiver wire Wednesday, making four pickups following roster cutdown day — and three at defensive back.

Former Jets safety Jason Pinnock, along with Nick McCloud and Justin Layne, were picked up by Joe Schoen at the position. Guard Jack Anderson, a former seventh-round pick for Daboll’s Bills, was the fourth.

As corresponding moves, coach Brian Daboll said the team is planning to put three players on IR: left guard Shane Lemieux, edge rusher Ellerson Smith and cornerback Rodarius Williams. Exactly how the Giants plan to clear a fourth roster spot hadn’t yet been decided when Daboll spoke to media just before 1 pm on Wednesday.

Lemieux, who has been dealing with a foot injury, hadn’t been expected to return soon, but adding him to IR means the Giants will be without their starting left guard for a minimum of four weeks. Josh Ezeudu, or perhaps even Anderson, could end up starting during the early part of the season — Daboll was noncommittal on who he considers to be the starter right now.
